Aventurine Properties: Benefits and Uses of Aventurine

Right from the beginning, even the name aventurine grabs your attention. What secrets does the stone have to share? How can it be used?

Whether you are new to crystal work or have been using it to improve your life for years, it is crucial to have more information about any stone you use. Knowing the benefits, properties, and uses can help you determine which stone (or combination of stones) will complement your goals the most.

We love crystals at Chiji and strongly believe in their power and potential. In this article, we’ll focus specifically on aventurine properties. Our goal is for you to leave with a better understanding of the stone’s benefits and how you can apply them to your life.

Aventurine’s Physical Properties

What does aventurine look like? How is it classified? While its physical properties don’t have any bearing on its metaphysical ones, knowing what to look for can help you more easily identify the stone.

For starters, aventurine is a type of quartz. It is most commonly green in color (from chrome inclusion), but it may also be grey, blue, yellow, brown, yellow, or a combination of those colors. The stone is often described as glittering due to the fragments of mica or hematite found throughout it. That glitter is sometimes referred to as aventurescence.

Aventurine is often confused with jade, especially the green variety of aventurine. However, the chemical composition of these stones is significantly different.

The History of Aventurine

Like most stones, aventurine has been around for quite some time. Humans have been using it for various purposes for hundreds of thousands of years.

In ancient Ethiopia, aventurine was used to make tools. In Tibet, aventurine was commonly used in the eyes of statues to help increase their power. Aventurine is also frequently tied to goddesses across many pantheons, including the Celts, Greeks, and ancient Chinese.

Although the name aventurine makes people first think of adventure, it originates from an Italian phrase, “a ventura,” which translates to “by chance.” The lore behind this name can be traced back to Italy in the 17th century, where it was “stolen” from an artificial mineral that looks similar. That mineral, now referred to as goldstone, has a similar color and sparkle but can not be found naturally in the world.

Birthstone Correspondence

While there are many stones out there that don’t correspond with a specific birth month or astrological sign, aventurine is one of the lucky few that do.

Even though aventurine isn’t officially listed on any of the traditional birthstone charts, most people believe it to be associated with those born under the sign of Taurus. Tauruses include anyone born from April 20th to May 20th.

Although the official birthstone of the Taurus is emerald, aventurine is thought to be associated with Venus, which is also the planet that rules Taurus. Both are emerald and aventurine are green stones but influence and represent the sign in different ways.

As most aventurine is green, anyone born under an Earth sign can also use the stone. That includes Virgos (born from August 23rd to September 22nd) and Capricorns (born from December 22nd to January 19th).

Aventurine Properties and the Chakra System

Aventurine is also associated with the chakras, which are the energy centers located inside the body. Specifically, the stone is helpful with opening up and cleansing the heart chakra.

The heart chakra is the fourth chakra and is represented by a green, 12 petalled lotus flower. Found in the middle of the chest, over your physical heart, the heart chakra is in control of our sense of love, empathy, and compassion (for ourselves and others).

While each chakra is vital in its way, the heart chakra is often considered the connector of the seven. It promotes a sense of harmony in the entire chakra system due to its location directly in the middle. The lower three chakras (the root, sacral, and solar plexus chakras) and the higher three chakras (the throat, third eye, and crown chakras) represent different focuses—one half on the body and the other half on the mind and spiritual world. When we can balance mind and body, we feel the most at peace.

To work with aventurine, you’ll need a cleansed piece of the stone. Find a quiet place where you are least likely to be disturbed, and lay comfortably on your back. Place the aventurine over your heart chakra, close your eyes, and focus your attention on the area.

This form of focused meditation can help you clear out any fog that may be blocking the heart chakra so that you can be as warm, open, and compassionate as possible.

In addition, using stones to help clear out each of your chakras helps open the channels of energy that flow through all of your chakras. This leads to a greater sense of emotional balance and clarity. Having even one chakra closed or blocked stops that energy flow, much like a kink in a garden hose.

The Gambler’s Stone

One of aventurine's most enduring nicknames is the “gambler’s stone.” The nickname can be traced back to how the stone got its name and the translation of “by chance.”

For many, the most important of aventurine properties is its ability to enhance luck. It is commonly believed that luck is something that is entirely out of our control. While that may be true in some cases, our attitude and how we approach situations can go a long way toward having things go our way. With aventurine, it may be possible to create your own luck.

The way it does this isn’t clear but, for many people, the stone helps to more easily find the opportunity in any situation, no matter how dire it may seem. Aventurine seems to clear out the fog of negativity and doubt, allowing you to see the “luck” and possibility in anything you may encounter.

We include the stone in our Abundance and New Beginnings Crystal Set. Combined with other crystals known to help you make the most of your life, including green jade, grey agate, moonstone, and amazonite, any new beginning can start on the right foot.

Aventurine Properties: Wealth

It would be nice to have an endless source of money, but that isn’t the reality for most of us. Wealth is something that is usually the result of hard work and dedication.

Aventurine also connects deeply with this goal and naturally extends its powers to matters of wealth as well as career, finances, and intentions.

Just like how the stone can remove negativity and doubt from matters of luck and fortune, it does the same in the money sector. Most of this benefit is due to how aventurine can help you manifest anything you set your mind to. When you can believe in yourself and all that you can achieve, the sky's the limit.

So much of our struggles and hurdles come down to throwing our roadblocks up. No matter how much you might want that promotion or new job opportunity, if you’re convinced that it will never happen for you, it’s so much harder to achieve it.

To use aventurine to manifest wealth and abundance, place a small, freshly cleansed piece of the stone in your wallet. You can also choose to wear the stone as a bracelet to remind yourself of your intentions or a necklace to keep your desires close to your heart.

Boosting the Mood

In addition to helping you increase your luck and financial prosperity, another of the aventurine properties that attracts people is its ability to boost the mood.

Unlike other stones that can make you feel better temporarily by making you forget what may be bothering you, aventurine works on a deeper level. Instead of just putting on a false facade of happiness, the stone can help you clear out the emotional cobwebs.

Much of that power comes from its connection to the heart chakra. As we briefly touched on, the heart chakra is really our compassion center. It is from the heart chakra that our ability to look inward and reflect lovingly comes from. When it is blocked, it’s much harder to see the light through all the darkness.

If you feel yourself being pulled down into negativity, use aventurine to help you identify and heal what’s bothering you. To do this, sit quietly in meditation, holding a piece of the stone.

You may prefer to lay on your back with aventurine over your heart, which is also acceptable. Then, focus on what’s bothering you. Feel your heart opening up, and watch the compassion and empathy you have for yourself come flooding back.

This process can be so powerful that you may find yourself crying, which is completely normal! So many of us have shut off our relationship with our feelings in self-defense, and opening them up can make you feel vulnerable. Remember, at the end of the day, vulnerability is a good thing! It means you’re experiencing all of what life has to offer and permitting yourself to feel things deeply.

Connect With Nature

The final of the beneficial aventurine properties we’ll focus on is its ability to help you connect more deeply with nature. Even if you live in the most urban area, and you can’t even remember the last time you saw a tree, aventurine can bring nature right to you.

Specifically, the stone has connections with both the spring and summer months. If you think about it, it makes sense! Spring and summer are the greenest months of the year, and aventurine is a physical representation of that. Aventurine is especially powerful when you target the cusp between the two months, a change that you can usually feel around the end of May and the beginning of June.

Every season elicits different, unique feelings in people. For some, they look forward to fall and the changing of the leaves. For others, it’s the snow melting as the Earth moves from winter to spring. For many people, the summer brings a sense of freedom and excitement that they look forward to all year.

But, no matter how much you can’t wait for a season to come, you can’t make it come any faster. Regardless of our feelings and agenda, the Earth moves at its own pace.

That’s a reminder to all of us that it’s important to relax, take a deep breath, and go with the flow. Stressing out about something doesn’t do anything but destroy your mental health. Be like aventurine and appreciate the midpoint of the journey just as much as the start and the destination.

If you’re feeling anxious or stuck, sit in quiet meditation with a piece of aventurine. Feel the power and peace that it can create, and channel Mother Nature into your spirit. Close your eyes and imagine that you’re sitting out in nature.

Focus on the feeling of grass under you and how the cool breeze gently touches your skin. Sit as long as you need to feel less stressed out, then take that feeling with you for the rest of the day. If possible, take a piece of aventurine with you the next time you are out in nature and charge it with all those feelings in real life.

In Conclusion

Although it doesn’t have all of the recognition and star power that many of the more recognizable crystals do, aventurine is just as powerful. Using the stone to help boost your mood, increase your luck, and remove the roadblocks stopping you from achieving wealth and happiness may be just what you need to change your life for the better.
